When it comes to higher education, there are a lot of options for teaching students. You can choose a traditional brick and mortar school, or with the growth of online education, you can attend a school half-way across the country without even leaving your house. Also there are many trade schools and bootcamps that offer short-term programs that open up more career options.
To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Teaching Degree Search has created its Best Value Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking. Our analysis looked at 15 schools in the New England Region to see which associate degree programs offered the best value experiences for teaching students with the aim of identifying those quality schools that are more affordable than some of their counterparts.
Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.
In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Our 2023 rankings named Middlesex Community College the best value school in the New England Region for teaching students working on their associate degree. Middlesex Community College is a medium-sized public school situated in Bedford, Massachusetts. It awarded 34 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Middlesex Community College are $12,120 per year. On average, associate degree students take out $13,346 in loans while pursuing their degree.
Middlesex Community College does offer online classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 100% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
Middlesex Community College did well in our overall quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our Best Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means Community College of Vermont is a great place for teaching students working on their associate degree who want the most bang for their educational buck. CCV is located in Montpelier, Vermont and has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 54 associate degrees to qualified students.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at CCV are $13,640 a year. On average, associate degree students take out $13,519 in loans while pursuing their degree.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at CCV. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 90% took at least some of their classes online.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, CCV is ranked #2 for overall quality in the New England Region .
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Granite State College. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Best Value Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list. Located in Concord, New Hampshire, the small public school handed out 19 associate degree awards in 2020-2021.
GSC undergraduate students pay an average of $9,015 in tuition and fees each year. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $17,009 in student loans.
Some students may be able to take online classes at GSC. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 99% took at least some of their classes online.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means Bristol Community College is a great place for teaching students working on their associate degree who want the most bang for their educational buck. Located in Fall River, Massachusetts, the medium-sized public school handed out 42 associate degree awards in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at Bristol are $10,152 a year. Associate Degree recipients from this school accumulate an average of $11,401 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.
Bristol does offer online classes for certain degree levels. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 100% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Bristol not only placed well in our value ranking, but it is also #5 on our Best Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list.
Out of the 15 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s value ranking, Southern Maine Community College landed the # 5 spot on the list. SMCC is located in South Portland, Maine and has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 33 associate degrees to qualified students.
SMCC undergraduate students pay an average of $6,754 in tuition and fees each year. Associate Degree recipients from this school accumulate an average of $16,222 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.
One thing to take note of is that SMCC does offer online classes in some areas. In fact, around 81% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #6, Springfield Technical Community College did quite well on this year’s best value schools for teaching students working on their associate degree. This small public school is located in Springfield, Massachusetts, and it awarded 26 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at STCC are $10,728 a year. Associate Degree recipients from this school accumulate an average of $11,475 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since STCC does offer online classes for certain majors. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 93% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
STCC did well in our overall quality rankings, too. It placed #4 on our Best Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list.
Quinsigamond Community College landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value associate degree teaching programs. Located in Worcester, Massachusetts, the medium-sized public school awarded 29 diplomas to qualifed associate degree students in 2020-2021.
Quinsigamond Community College undergraduate students pay an average of $10,774 in tuition and fees each year. Associate Degree recipients from this school accumulate an average of $20,343 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.
Quinsigamond Community College does offer online classes for certain degree levels. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 35% took at least some of their classes online.
NHTI-Concord’s Community College ranked #8 on this year’s Best Value Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list. Located in Concord, New Hampshire, the small public school awarded 23 diplomas to qualifed associate degree students in 2020-2021.
NHTI undergraduate students pay an average of $15,450 in tuition and fees each year. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $19,718 in student loans.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at NHTI. In 2019-2020 about 78% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
NHTI also took the #3 spot in our Best Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region rankings.
Manchester Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for teaching students to get an associate degree. It came in at #9 on the list. MCC is a public institution located in Manchester, Connecticut. The school has a small population, and it awarded 14 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at MCC are $13,468 a year. On average, associate degree students take out $11,342 in loans while pursuing their degree.
Online courses are available at MCC, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In 2019-2020 about 80% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Bunker Hill Community College landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value associate degree teaching programs. Boston, Massachusetts is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out associate degrees to 31 students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at BHCC are $10,224 a year. On average, associate degree students take out $11,991 in loans while pursuing their degree.
If you are interested in distance education, BHCC is an excellent choice, since the school is online.
Capital Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for teaching students to get an associate degree. It came in at #11 on the list. Located in Hartford, Connecticut, the small public school handed out 5 associate degree awards in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Capital Community College are $13,548 per year. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $14,245 in student loans.
One thing to take note of is that Capital Community College does offer online classes in some areas. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 88% took at least some of their classes online.
Gateway Community College ranked #12 on this year’s Best Value Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region list. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, the medium-sized public school awarded 19 diplomas to qualifed associate degree students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at Gateway Community College are $13,448 a year. Associate Degree recipients from this school accumulate an average of $10,572 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.
Gateway Community College does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In 2019-2020 about 98% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Fisher College came in at #13 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking. Fisher College is located in Boston, Massachusetts and has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 13 associate degrees to qualified students.
Fisher College undergraduate students pay an average of $33,500 in tuition and fees each year. Associate Degree recipients from this school accumulate an average of $18,751 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.
Some students may be able to take online classes at Fisher College. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 69% took at least some of their classes online.
Northern Vermont University came in at #14 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Teaching Associate Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking. Northern Vermont University is a small public school situated in Johnson, Vermont. It awarded 1 associate degrees in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Northern Vermont University are $26,892 per year.
Northern Vermont University does offer online classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 46% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Bay Path University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for teaching students to get an associate degree. It came in at #15 on the list. Located in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 1 associate degree awards in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Bay Path are $35,781 per year.
Since Bay Path is primarily an online school, it is an excellent choice for undergraduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
