This report analyzed 31 schools in Massachusetts to see which ones offered the best value master's degree programs for teaching students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
When determining this ranking, we place a high emphasis on the school's quality as well as its sticker price. Even though a college may be affordable, it may not offer value. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.
Our calculations use out-of-state tuition and fees in our nationwide and regional rankings. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

American International College is a small private not-for-profit school located in Springfield, Massachusetts that handed out 376 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
AIC graduate students pay an average of $12,717 in tuition and fees each year.
Online graduate courses are available at AIC, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. During the 2019-2020 year, about 14% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Assumption University ranked #10 on this year’s Best Value Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in Massachusetts list. Located in Worcester, Massachusetts, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 27 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Assumption are $13,856 a year.

University of Massachusetts - Boston landed the #16 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value master’s degree teaching programs. This fairly large public school is located in Boston, Massachusetts, and it awarded 248 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Harvard are $52,170 a year.

Western New England University landed the #24 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value master’s degree teaching programs. Western New England is located in Springfield, Massachusetts and has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 13 master’s degrees to qualified students.
Western New England graduate students pay an average of $26,640 in tuition and fees each year.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Western New England does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. Bay Path University landed the #25 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value master’s degree teaching programs. Bay Path is located in Longmeadow, Massachusetts and has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 91 master’s degrees to qualified students.
