This report analyzed 25 schools in the Plains States Region to see which ones had the most popular online doctor's degree programs for teaching students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from schools with online programs.

Our 2023 rankings named Capella University the most popular school in the Plains States Region for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree. Capella University is a large private for-profit school located in Minneapolis, Minnesota that handed out 423 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 82% were women.
Since the graduate programs at Capella University are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Creighton University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Popular Online Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region list. Omaha, Nebraska is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctor’s degrees to 68 students in 2020-2021.
Around 57% of those degree recipients were women.

University of Missouri - Columbia ranked #6 on this year’s Most Popular Online Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region list. University of Missouri - Columbia is a large public school located in Columbia, Missouri that handed out 74 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 64% of those degree recipients were women.
