Our analysis looked at 292 schools in the Southeast Region to see which master's degree programs were the most popular for teaching students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Liberty University the most popular school in the Southeast Region for teaching students working on their master’s degree. Liberty University is a large private not-for-profit school situated in Lynchburg, Virginia. It awarded 1,881 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 80% of those degree recipients were women.
Online graduate courses are available at Liberty University, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 97% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of the Cumberlands. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Popular Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region list. Cumberlands is located in Williamsburg, Kentucky and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 1,311 master’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 75% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Cumberlands does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 99% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you attend University of West Alabama. The school came in at #3 on this year’s Most Popular Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region list. Located in Livingston, Alabama, the medium-sized public school awarded 1,072 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 82% were women.
One thing to take note of is that University of West Alabama does offer online graduate classes in some areas. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 96% took at least some of their classes online.
Out of the 292 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Arkansas State University - Main Campus landed the # 4 spot on the list. A-State is located in Jonesboro, Arkansas and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 1,047 master’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 80% of those degree recipients were women.
A-State does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. During the 2019-2020 year, about 83% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Out of the 292 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, George Mason University landed the # 5 spot on the list. Located in Fairfax, Virginia, the large public school handed out 945 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 86% of those degree recipients were women.

University of Central Florida landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree teaching programs. UCF is located in Orlando, Florida and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 467 master’s degrees to qualified students.

The University of West Florida ranked #7 on this year’s Most Popular Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region list. Located in Pensacola, Florida, the fairly large public school handed out 467 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

UWF does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. During the 2019-2020 year, about 95% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
William Carey University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for teaching students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #9 on the list. This medium-sized private not-for-profit school is located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and it awarded 458 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 80% of those degree recipients were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at William Carey University. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 58% took at least some of their classes online.
University of West Georgia ranked #10 on this year’s Most Popular Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region list. University of West Georgia is a fairly large public school located in Carrollton, Georgia that handed out 402 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

NC State is a public institution located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The school has a large population, and it awarded 331 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

USF Tampa does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 69% took at least some of their classes online.
University of Florida landed the #21 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree teaching programs. This large public school is located in Gainesville, Florida, and it awarded 324 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

University of Virginia - Main Campus did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for teaching students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #22 on the list. Charlottesville, Virginia is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out master’s degrees to 322 students in 2020-2021.

West Virginia University ranked #23 on this year’s Most Popular Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region list. Located in Morgantown, West Virginia, the large public school handed out 320 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 55% of those degree recipients were women.

Nova Southeastern University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for teaching students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #24 on the list. Nova Southeastern University is a large private not-for-profit school located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida that handed out 315 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 78% were women.
One thing to take note of is that NUS Florida does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 52% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Georgia College & State University ranked #25 on this year’s Most Popular Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region list. Milledgeville, Georgia is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out master’s degrees to 295 students in 2020-2021.
Around 75% of those degree recipients were women.
