Our 2023 rankings named Messiah University the best school in the Middle Atlantic Region for teaching students working on their basic certificate.
Messiah does not offer a discount to in-state students, so the average tuition and fees for all undergraduates is $38,370. This amount may be reduced if you receive financial aid.
Messiah does offer online classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 30% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
The excellent basic certificate programs at California University of Pennsylvania helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the best teaching schools in the Middle Atlantic Region .
Full-time students from Pennsylvania pay an average of $11,108 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend Cal U. Out-of-state students pay an average of $15,726.
One thing to take note of is that Cal U does offer online classes in some areas. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 64% took at least some of their classes online.
Out of the 16 schools in the Middle Atlantic Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Delaware Technical Community College - Terry landed the # 3 spot on the list.
Students from Delaware who attend Delaware Tech full time pay an average of $4,945 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $11,808.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Delaware Tech does offer online classes for certain majors. In 2019-2020 about 93% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Clarion University of Pennsylvania. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Best Teaching Basic Certificate Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region list.
Students from Pennsylvania who attend Clarion University full time pay an average of $11,173 in tuition and fees. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $16,052.

The excellent basic certificate programs at Rowan University helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the best teaching schools in the Middle Atlantic Region .
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Rowan is $14,376. Out-of-state students pay an average of $23,408.

American University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for teaching students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #6 on the list.
The average tuition and fees at The American University is $51,334. In-state students do not receive a discount, however you may be able to reduce your price if you receive financial aid.
Online courses are available at The American University, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 28% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Delaware County Community College came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Best Teaching Basic Certificate Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region ranking.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Delaware County Community College is $9,900. Out-of-state students pay an average of $13,740.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at Delaware County Community College. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 94% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #8, University of Rochester did quite well on this year’s best schools for teaching students working on their basic certificate.
University of Rochester does not offer a discount to in-state students, so the average tuition and fees for all undergraduates is $59,378. This amount may be reduced if you receive financial aid.
One thing to take note of is that University of Rochester does offer online classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 97% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
Temple University landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best basic certificate teaching programs.
Full-time students from Pennsylvania pay an average of $17,378 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend Temple. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $30,602.
Temple does offer online classes for certain degree levels. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 99% took at least some of their classes online.
Essex County College came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Best Teaching Basic Certificate Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region ranking.
If you don’t receive financial aid, you can expect a bill for $8,966 to cover tuition and fees at Essex. The school does not offer an in-state discount.

Marywood University came in at #11 in this year’s edition of the Best Teaching Basic Certificate Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region ranking.

La Roche University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for teaching students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #13 on the list.
La Roche does not offer a discount to in-state students, so the average tuition and fees for all undergraduates is $31,570. This amount may be reduced if you receive financial aid.
Online courses are available at La Roche, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. During the 2019-2020 year, about 57% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #14, Northampton County Area Community College did quite well on this year’s best schools for teaching students working on their basic certificate.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Northampton Community College is $10,350. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $15,270.
Some students may be able to take online classes at Northampton Community College. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 73% took at least some of their classes online.
Community College of Philadelphia did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for teaching students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #15 on the list.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Community College of Philadelphia is $8,688. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $12,744.
Online courses are available at Community College of Philadelphia, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In 2019-2020 about 100% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Monroe College ranked #16 on this year’s Best Teaching Basic Certificate Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region list.
If you want to attend Monroe College, expect to pay an average of $16,686 in tuition and fees. Of course, this could be reduced if you receive financial aid.
