This report analyzed 12 schools in New Jersey to see which ones offered the best doctor's degree programs for teaching students. To come up with a school's ranking, we analyzed numerous factors related to post-graduation wages, the quality of education offered by the school, average accumulated student debt, and more.

Our 2023 rankings named Centenary University the best school in New Jersey for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree.
One thing to take note of is that Centenary does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In fact, around 94% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend New Jersey City University. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Best Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey list.
Online graduate courses are available at NJCU, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 98% took at least some of their classes online.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Rutgers University - New Brunswick. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Best Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey list.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Rutgers New Brunswick. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 23% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Monmouth University. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Best Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey list.
One thing to take note of is that Monmouth does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 90% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
A rank of #5 on this year’s list means Seton Hall University is a great place for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Seton Hall does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. During the 2019-2020 year, about 75% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Saint Peter’s University ranked #6 on this year’s Best Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey list.
Saint Peter’s College does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 98% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Rowan University landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best doctor’s degree teaching programs.
Online graduate courses are available at Rowan, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In 2019-2020 about 36% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Montclair State University ranked #8 on this year’s Best Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey list.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at Montclair State. In fact, around 91% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Kean University came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey ranking.
One thing to take note of is that Kean does offer online graduate classes in some areas. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 6% took at least some of their classes online.
Rider University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for teaching students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #10 on the list.
Rider does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. During the 2019-2020 year, about 66% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Caldwell University ranked #11 on this year’s Best Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey list.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Caldwell does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In fact, around 28% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
College of Saint Elizabeth came in at #12 in this year’s edition of the Best Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey ranking.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at CSE. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 49% took at least some of their classes online.
