This report analyzed 64 schools in the Southwest Region to see which ones offered the best master's degree programs for teaching students. The factors used to develop this ranking include those related to how in-demand the school us, the overall quality of the school, and post-graduation wages, and more.

Our 2023 rankings named Trinity University the best school in the Southwest Region for teaching students working on their master’s degree.

Out of the 64 schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, The University of Texas at Austin landed the # 4 spot on the list.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at UT Austin. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 66% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Best Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
UT Rio Grande Valley does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 92% took at least some of their classes online.

University of St. Thomas ranked #6 on this year’s Best Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.

Austin College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for teaching students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #7 on the list.

Baylor University came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking.

Arizona State University - Skysong landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best master’s degree teaching programs.

With a ranking of #15, Angelo State University did quite well on this year’s best schools for teaching students working on their master’s degree.

Southern Methodist University came in at #16 in this year’s edition of the Best Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking.

University of Houston - Clear Lake ranked #17 on this year’s Best Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at UH Clear Lake. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 91% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #18, Lamar University did quite well on this year’s best schools for teaching students working on their master’s degree.

Arizona State University - Tempe came in at #19 in this year’s edition of the Best Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking.
One thing to take note of is that ASU - Tempe does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 42% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Lubbock Christian University ranked #20 on this year’s Best Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region list.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at LCU. In fact, around 46% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
MSU Texas came in at #21 in this year’s edition of the Best Teaching Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking.

With a ranking of #22, Ottawa University - Phoenix did quite well on this year’s best schools for teaching students working on their master’s degree.

With a ranking of #25, Sam Houston State University did quite well on this year’s best schools for teaching students working on their master’s degree.
