To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Teaching Degree Search has created its Best Value Teaching Doctor's Degree Schools in New Jersey ranking. This report analyzed 12 schools in New Jersey to see which ones offered the best value doctor's degree programs for teaching students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
This ranking is not just a list of inexpensive schools. We also consider each school's quality, since we believe a low-quality school may not be a 'bargain' at any price. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
For nationwide and regional rankings, we use out-of-state tuition and fees in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our analysis found Centenary University to be the best value school for teaching students who want to pursue a doctor’s degree in New Jersey. Centenary University is a small private not-for-profit school located in Hackettstown, New Jersey that handed out 19 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Centenary graduate students pay an average of $17,550 in tuition and fees each year.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Centenary. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 94% took at least some of their classes online.

The school came in at #2 on this year’s Best Value Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey list. This large public school is located in Montclair, New Jersey, and it awarded 20 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Montclair State graduate students pay an average of $13,519 in tuition and fees each year.
Montclair State does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 91% took at least some of their classes online.
A rank of #3 on this year’s list means New Jersey City University is a great place for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree who want the most bang for their educational buck. NJCU is a medium-sized public school situated in Jersey City, New Jersey. It awarded 12 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at NJCU are $24,304 a year.
NJCU does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 98% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, NJCU is ranked #2 for overall quality in New Jersey.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Rowan University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Value Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey list. Rowan is located in Glassboro, New Jersey and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 13 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Rowan graduate students pay an average of $16,146 in tuition and fees each year.

With a ranking of #6, Kean University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree. Union, New Jersey is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 4 students in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Kean are $22,438 per year.
Kean does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 6% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #6, Saint Peter’s University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree. Jersey City, New Jersey is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctor’s degrees to 31 students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Saint Peter’s College are $21,246 a year.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Saint Peter’s College. During the 2019-2020 year, about 98% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #8, Caldwell University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree. Caldwell, New Jersey is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctor’s degrees to 3 students in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Caldwell are $15,824 per year.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Caldwell. During the 2019-2020 year, about 28% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Seton Hall University landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value doctor’s degree teaching programs. Located in South Orange, New Jersey, the medium-sized private not-for-profit school awarded 49 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Seton Hall graduate students pay an average of $26,018 in tuition and fees each year.
Seton Hall does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In 2019-2020 about 75% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, Seton Hall is ranked #5 for overall quality in New Jersey.
With a ranking of #10, Rider University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree. Rider is a private not-for-profit institution located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The school has a small population, and it awarded 18 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Rider graduate students pay an average of $20,159 in tuition and fees each year.
One thing to take note of is that Rider does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 66% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Monmouth University came in at #11 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in New Jersey ranking. Monmouth is a private not-for-profit institution located in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 14 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at Monmouth are $29,290 a year.

College of Saint Elizabeth did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value places for teaching students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #12 on the list. CSE is a small private not-for-profit school situated in Morristown, New Jersey. It awarded 14 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at CSE are $18,734 a year.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at CSE. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 49% took at least some of their classes online.
