Our analysis looked at 19 schools in Ohio to see which doctor's degree programs were the most popular for teaching students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our analysis found Ohio State University - Main Campus to be the most popular school for teaching students who want to pursue a doctor’s degree in Ohio. Ohio State is a public institution located in Columbus, Ohio. The school has a large population, and it awarded 74 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 70% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Ohio State does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 76% took at least some of their classes online.
Out of the 19 schools in Ohio that were part of this year’s ranking, Ohio University - Athens Campus landed the # 2 spot on the list. Athens, Ohio is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 34 students in 2020-2021.

University of Toledo is located in Toledo, Ohio and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 34 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Of those students who received their degree, 88% were women.
Online graduate courses are available at University of Toledo, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. During the 2019-2020 year, about 29% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Kent State University at Kent. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Most Popular Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in Ohio list. Kent, Ohio is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 30 students in 2020-2021.
Around 70% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Kent State does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In fact, around 57% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
A rank of #5 on this year’s list means Miami University - Oxford is a great place for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Oxford, Ohio, the fairly large public school awarded 29 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.

Cleveland State University landed the #6 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree teaching programs. This fairly large public school is located in Cleveland, Ohio, and it awarded 19 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Youngstown State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for teaching students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #7 on the list. Youngstown State University is a fairly large public school located in Youngstown, Ohio that handed out 16 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

The University of Findlay ranked #9 on this year’s Most Popular Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in Ohio list. Findlay is a small private not-for-profit school situated in Findlay, Ohio. It awarded 13 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

With a ranking of #10, Xavier University did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree. This medium-sized private not-for-profit school is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and it awarded 12 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 67% of those degree recipients were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Xavier. In 2019-2020 about 46% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
With a ranking of #11, Bowling Green State University - Main Campus did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for teaching students working on their doctor’s degree. BGSU is a fairly large public school situated in Bowling Green, Ohio. It awarded 11 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 64% of those degree recipients were women.

Franklin University ranked #15 on this year’s Most Popular Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in Ohio list. Franklin University is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school located in Columbus, Ohio that handed out 1 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 100% of those degree recipients were women.
Interested in an online degree? Then you definitely want to check out Franklin University. Every graduate student at the school took at least one class online.
Case Western Reserve University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for teaching students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #17 on the list.
One thing to take note of is that Case Western does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 17% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Union Institute & University ranked #17 on this year’s Most Popular Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in Ohio list.
If you are interested in distance education, Union is an excellent choice, since graduate classes are offered online.
Antioch University - Midwest came in at #17 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Teaching Doctor’s Degree Schools in Ohio ranking.
