This report analyzed 10 schools in Washington to see which ones were the most popular graduate certificate programs for teaching students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Washington State University the most popular school in Washington for teaching students working on their graduate certificate. Washington State University is a large public school located in Pullman, Washington that handed out 360 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 81% were women.
One thing to take note of is that Wazzu does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 30% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Out of the 10 schools in Washington that were part of this year’s ranking, Seattle Pacific University landed the # 2 spot on the list. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Seattle, Washington, and it awarded 255 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 68% were women.
SPU does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 83% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Out of the 10 schools in Washington that were part of this year’s ranking, Eastern Washington University landed the # 3 spot on the list. Cheney, Washington is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out graduate certificates to 39 students in 2020-2021.
Around 62% of those degree recipients were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at EWU. In fact, around 92% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend City University of Seattle. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Most Popular Teaching Graduate Certificate Schools in Washington list. CityU is a private not-for-profit institution located in Seattle, Washington. The school has a small population, and it awarded 21 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 81% were women.
CityU does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 79% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
The excellent graduate certificate programs at Whitworth University helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular teaching schools in Washington. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Spokane, Washington, and it awarded 20 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Around 85% of those degree recipients were women.
Online graduate courses are available at Whitworth, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. During the 2019-2020 year, about 10% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Saint Martin’s University landed the #6 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular graduate certificate teaching programs. Saint Martin’s is a private not-for-profit institution located in Lacey, Washington. The school has a small population, and it awarded 9 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.

Saint Martin’s does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 98% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #7, Western Washington University did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for teaching students working on their graduate certificate. WWU is a fairly large public school situated in Bellingham, Washington. It awarded 7 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.

Since the graduate programs at Antioch University - Seattle are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Pacific Lutheran University landed the #8 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular graduate certificate teaching programs.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since PLU does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In fact, around 94% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Seattle University landed the #8 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular graduate certificate teaching programs.
On average, graduate certificate students take out $21,447 in loans while pursuing their degree.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Seattle U. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 71% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
