This report analyzed 44 schools in the Great Lakes Region to see which ones had the most popular online graduate certificate programs for teaching students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from schools with online programs.

Our 2023 rankings named Ball State University the most popular school in the Great Lakes Region for teaching students working on their graduate certificate. Ball State University is a large public school located in Muncie, Indiana that handed out 473 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 91% were women.
To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 91% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means American College of Education is a great place for teaching students working on their graduate certificate. American College of Education is a medium-sized private for-profit school located in Indianapolis, Indiana that handed out 289 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Viterbo University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Popular Online Teaching Graduate Certificate Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. National Louis University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for teaching students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #6 on the list. NLU is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school situated in Chicago, Illinois. It awarded 113 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Around 78% of those degree recipients were women.
Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 59% took at least some of their classes online.
