To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our analysis found Ivy Tech Community College to be the most popular school for teaching students who want to pursue a basic certificate in the Great Lakes Region . Ivy Tech Community College is located in Indianapolis, Indiana and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 182 basic certificates to qualified students.
Students from Indiana who attend Ivy Tech Community College full time pay an average of $4,637 in tuition and fees. Out-of-state students pay an average of $8,927. Of those students who received their degree, 95% were women.

Out of the 64 schools in the Great Lakes Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Wisconsin - Madison landed the # 3 spot on the list. University of Wisconsin - Madison is a large public school located in Madison, Wisconsin that handed out 155 basic certificates in 2020-2021.
Full-time students from Wisconsin pay an average of $10,720 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend UW - Madison. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $38,608. Of those students who received their degree, 83% were women.
One thing to take note of is that UW - Madison does offer online classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 99% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means Purdue University - Main Campus is a great place for teaching students working on their basic certificate. Located in West Lafayette, Indiana, the large public school awarded 83 diplomas to qualifed basic certificate students in 2020-2021.
Students from Indiana who attend Purdue full time pay an average of $9,992 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $28,794. Of those students who received their degree, 65% were women.

UW - Stout is located in Menomonie, Wisconsin and has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 64 basic certificates to qualified students.
In-state students pay an average of $9,553 in tuition and fees if they attend UW - Stout full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $17,820. Of those students who received their degree, 83% were women.

With a ranking of #9, American College of Education did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for teaching students working on their basic certificate. This medium-sized private for-profit school is located in Indianapolis, Indiana, and it awarded 53 basic certificates in 2020-2021.

The average in-state tuition and fees for students at MATC is $4,793. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $6,908. Around 97% of those degree recipients were women.

Northcentral Technical College ranked #13 on this year’s Most Popular Teaching Basic Certificate Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. Located in Wausau, Wisconsin, the medium-sized public school handed out 32 basic certificate awards in 2020-2021.
In-state students pay an average of $3,723 in tuition and fees if they attend North Central Technical College full time. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $5,415. Around 97% of those degree recipients were women.

In-state students pay an average of $9,509 in tuition and fees if they attend USI full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $21,812. Of those students who received their degree, 84% were women.

Bay Mills Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for teaching students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #18 on the list. BMCC is a very small public school situated in Brimley, Michigan. It awarded 20 basic certificates in 2020-2021.
BMCC does not offer a discount to in-state students, so the average tuition and fees for all undergraduates is $3,320. This amount may be reduced if you receive financial aid. Of those students who received their degree, 100% were women.

Elgin Community College landed the #20 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular basic certificate teaching programs. ECC is a public institution located in Elgin, Illinois. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 16 basic certificates in 2020-2021.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at ECC is $7,140. Out-of-state students pay an average of $9,516. Of those students who received their degree, 100% were women.

SMWC is located in Saint Mary of the Woods, Indiana and has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 13 basic certificates to qualified students.
